Know More About Hair Loss

December 24th, 2009 by admin

Hair loss is a natural part of the body’s process of renewal. There are too many reasons to list here as causes for but be assured it affects many, many millions of men, women and children around the world. The correct term for hair loss is Alopecia. Almost ninety five percent of cases of hair loss in men are hereditary and often referred to as male pattern baldness but the correct term is Androgenic Alopecia.

Hair Loss

Some people only loss a small amount of hair and this is often down to a poor diet and is worth checking with you specialist. There are other reasons though, some of which you may know including: mental tension, stress, hormonal imbalance or perhaps an over exposure to chemicals or cosmetics. Please note that if your hair follicles are undamaged then there is a good chance that your condition may only be temporary; it is only when the follicles are damaged that the problem can become permanent. Often considered as a purely male problem, in America women actually make up forty percent of people that suffer with some form of the condition.

Hair loss is in fact more common with women as they age but it is often caused by a thyroid problem. Although the number of women sufferers in the USA may seem high this figure equates around the world and by the time a woman reaches sixty, she has a forty percent chance of having a problem. Pregnant women are sometimes susceptible to some hair loss often lasting until after the child is born. In America approximately thirty million women suffer from female pattern, hereditary baldness at some point in their lives.

A relatively new treatment is to surgically restore hair for sufferers of permanent hair loss. Healthy hair follicles are transplanted from one area of the scalp to an area where the hair follicles have died. Hair transplants have become the most popular form of hair restoration treatment for men with the entire procedure done under local anesthetic and on an out-patient basis. It is now possible for women to enjoy this hair restoration treatment that men have been using but it is becoming popular for women who also wish to hide some scarring caused by previous facelifts.

When you are having hair transplant therapy it may be tempting to try and change your appearance but the best course of action is to try and stay as much like your original appearance. Existing medical conditions could cause problems so these must be sorted out before any hair transplant treatment is considered. Cosmetic Therapies cover a broad spectrum of treatments but hair transplant therapy, although lying within this same field, has aspects that are completely different to other forms of cosmetic surgery. Surgical hair transplant therapy might be your only solution if all other methods have failed despite the fact that discoveries in this field of hair loss continue to advance.
